"Germany moves to legalise cannabis in economy-boosting bid after Merkel departure"
Is that not an exciting headline? Germany will decriminalise certain sale and consumption rules of cannabis in a significant drug policy change for the ruling coalition government, according to reports.
In case you’re like me and need that putting into simpler terms; Germany is probably going to legalize the recreational use of cannabis very soon! What this means for us Brits is that legalization in the UK is getting oh-so-close, with Germany having a population of 84 million it is a powerhouse in Europe and for them to be legalizing the recreational use of cannabis is a huge sign of hope for the rest of the continent.
"The political parties known as the "traffic light" coalition are pushing for a change in legislation meaning the sale of cannabis will be legal for consumption purposes, it is suggested. According to German news outlet Der Spiegel, citing a report by Funke, a representative of the working group tasked with evaluating the policy change said: "We are introducing the controlled distribution of cannabis to adults for recreational purposes in licensed shops.""
That's what I read on a very interesting article by The Express, translated to English it means Germany are looking to make it legal for adults to use cannabis and finally see the value of controlling the sale of cannabis, now we just need them to have a word with old Boris...
To help with the cause the boffins over at The Institute for Competition Economics at the Dusseldorf University decided to do a survey. They found that a legalised cannabis market in Germany could add around 3.4 billion euros in tax revenue to the nation's wallet, that's crazy money! They also found It would save the judicial system in the country around 1.3 billion euros every year. - you know, because they won't have to arrest people for smoking a plant anymore. The survey suggests cannabis legalisation could create around 27,000 jobs so the out of work plugs need not worry. So basically what I'm saying is that the higher ups in Germany have finally smoked a fat one and realised there's a lot of money to be made legalizing cannabis.
This has got to go down as a win for the #Legalizeit movement and is an exciting prospect for the future!
